This month, Ars Lyrica presents the chamber opera "Les Plaisirs De Versailles" by the French baroque composer Marc-Antoine Charpentier on February 28. Written in 1682 for performance in the private apartments of Louis XIV at Versailles, this delightful short opera celebrates the various pleasures enjoyed at the French Baroque court.
As part as a year-round collaboration with the Cultural Services to enhance the visibility of the French language and culture, St Edward’s University in Austin is showing 5 recent French movies thanks to Tournées Festival (a grant from the FACE). Among those films, don’t miss out the Winner of the Palme d’Or at the 2008 Cannes Film Festival “Entre les murs” (The Class) and the excellent "La Graine et le Mulet" (The Secret of the Grain) which illustrates that it takes will, courage and determination to realize a dream but most of all it takes family!
The Dallas Museum of Art hosts The Lens of Impressionism: Photography and Painting Along the Normandy Coast, 1850–1874 which will include approximately 90 works, including photographs, paintings, drawings and prints. The project features exceptional loans from the Bibliothèque nationale de France and the Musée d’Orsay. The artists represented are Claude Monet, Edouard Manet, and Gustave Courbet… and the exhibition will also include photographs of Gustav Le Gray, Henri Le Seq, and Louis-Alphonse Davanne.
