"Les plaisirs de Versailles" is a short opera (or divertissement) by the French composer Marc-Antoine Charpentier.
This delightful divertissement celebrates the various pleasures enjoyed at the French Baroque court via characters who represent Music, Conversation, Gambling, Feasting and Pleasure. Scored for just six singers plus a small ensemble, with costumes and set pieces, it's an ideal piece of entertainment for a party or for a light-hearted program.
Directed by Tara Faircloth. Presented in collaboration with the Moores School of Music Collegium Musicum.

Live Cabaret at Bistrot Calais with Deborah Boily !

Deborah Boily
Deborah Boily (with Jerry Atwood)
Bistro CalaisBistro Calais presents Deborah Boily. With Jerry Atwood. Come out on date night to hear some favorite French and American songs in the intimate setting of an old home on Bammel Lane.
Debbie Boily's "singing approach is somehow both theatrical and intimate. . ., like someone you'd love to get to know." (Time Out, New York)
Deborah Boily has been working in the Cabaret world for 15 years as well, creating her own one-woman shows in French and in English. Deborah has brought her music to New York, Washington D.C., L.A. in the U.S. as well as the Fringe Festivals in Canada and in the summer of 2000 to Edinburgh, Scotland. While living in Paris, Deborah was a regular at the Hotel Westminster and while living in London, performed at The Green Room, Pizza on the Park, CentreStage and Jermyn Street Theater during her 2 years there.
Debbie says, "I see every song as a monologue where the character needs to express what she feels. My hope in being that character for "3 minutes" is that the audience will say 'Yeah! I get it!' or better yet, 'Yes, I feel that same way!'.
A connection is made from song to singer to audience. There are two kinds of singers," she says. "A singer who believes the words and music are the star where the singer is the messenger, and a singer who believes the words and music are there merely as a vehicle allowing the singer to show off." Debbie always lets the song be the star, even though she has a marvelously powerful vocal instrument.
"In my mind, it's all about telling the story," she adds.

New CD " French Collection…Deux " by Deborah Boily
French Collection…Deux continues where A French Collection left off with a great Piaf song “La Ville Inconnue” (the other very popular ones are on A French Collection) and two really beautiful Jacques Brel songs (both songs were featured in last summer’s show “Seasons in the Sun, a Celebration of Jacques Brel” at Ovations. They are “Voir un Ami Pleurer” (To See a Friend in Tears) and “Prochain Amour” (My Next Love). It also includes the French version of “I Dreamed a Dream” from Les Miserables, a blusey Charles Aznavour song, a favorite Michel Jonasz song (there is another of Jonasz’ songs on A French Collection) and several Serge Lama pieces. Serge Lama has written some of the most beautiful and dramatic songs and you will hear 4 of them on French Collection..Deux. There are translations included of most of the songs on this CD so the listener can feel more connected to these stories.
